HQ: ADAM BAYACAL'S #FOSSILFIRSTS

May 23, 2017

Our HQ #FOSSILFIRSTS continue, so next up we’d like you to meet Adam Bayacal . In the office Adam is known for his is contagious energy on set as a Photographer's Assistant (he can be found dancing at any given moment). His most significant firsts or "firsts" revolve around his passion for photography –it’s something that’s led him to where he is today. Read on to learn more about Adam's photography firsts, middle school memories (aka major nostalgia) and how his new Q hybrid smartwatch  helps him get through the craziness that is his day to day.

Q: Tell us about your first photograph.

A: My first photograph (which unforuntately was lost) was taken with a Polaroid i-Zone which I received on my birthday when I was eight years old. The photo itself was of an ice cream truck that passed by my house every day.

Q: Why will you always look back to your first photograph.

A: If I still had my first photograph (it was probably thrown away years ago), I would definitely admire the fact that my first thought at eight years old was to capture something as simple as the ice cream truck. The idea itself embodied all of my childhood into a small rectangular photo. I would have never thought that at eight I was capable of capturing something that in depth.

Q: What do you love most about photography?

A: The pure simplicity of capturing a moment and it documenting a particular time and place. Stylistically, photography is so diverse, and I love that people can incorporate their individuality into their work. Conceptualizing and executing an idea is also fun, especially when you’re shooting with great people.

Q: What's your number one tip for aspiring photographers?

A: Anyone that is a photographer should know that it’s always okay to ask questions. One thing I’ve learned is that there is a vast network of photographers in the world ready to help you at any time, so just ask if you need help!

Q: As a photographer how does our Q Smartwatch make your life easier?

A: Being able to not worry about my phone notifications makes life a lot easier. My Q Grant hybrid smartwatch  makes my workflow a lot more seamless and less worrisome.

Q: What is the one app that you can't get through the day without?

A: Spotify. I love music too much to go one day without it.

QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS:

Q: What was your first Fossil watch?

A: It was a small, blue faced watch that I borrowed from a friend for my 8th grade Winter Formal dance. I couldn’t afford to buy a watch on my own, so I had to borrow his!

Q: Your number one tip for aspiring photographers?

A: Anyone that is a photographer should know that it’s always okay to ask questions. One thing I’ve learned is that there is a vast network of photographers in the world ready to help you at any time, so just ask if you need help! And shadow as much as possible!

Q: Your favorite place to photograph?

A: Parking garages. I have a huge fascination with them.

Q: Your first job at Fossil?

A: Assisting on a photo shoot actually!

Q: Any words of wisdom for recent graduates?

A: Be humble. Those are the only words of advice I have. Treat everyone especially yourself with respect. It should never be an “I’m gonna be the best” mentality, it should be an “I want always to be learning and get better” mentality.
