Cool Commute: Ruben Hughes

Whether you’re heading back to school or starting a new profession for the fall, it’s time to start thinking about your on-the-go essentials. Every day we take different commutes whether by bus, train, automobile or our own two feet. We asked a man always on the go, Ruben Hughes a photographer and social media strategist from New York, about his daily commute.

Q: Is there anything you see on your daily commute that inspires you?

A: The city itself is very inspiring. Taking the ferry from my neighborhood to downtown gives me the opportunity to see New York in a special way. It’s a commute that I love.

Q: What kinds of sounds do you hear on your commute?

A: Horns, chatter, buzzing, music, yelling, doors shutting, etc…

Q: What is your favorite commute you have ever been on? Where?

A: I would have to say the “waterway” (ferry). It’s just something about seeing the city from the outside that intrigues me.

Q: If your commute was a movie, what would be the title?

A: Wide Eyes

Q: How is this product perfect for your everyday commute?

A: Along with my camera, I like to carry around bimonthlies, photo books and little knickknacks. I always tell myself, ‘you never know when you may need it’. The Estate backpack offers a practical number of compartments (for my creative spirit) but still keeps a modern look and feel. The mix of waxed canvas and leather is a cool touch too.

Q: What kinds of things do you carry with you everyday?

A: My everyday carryall consists of a camera (digital or film), key hook, wallet, photo books, bimonthly magazines and knickknacks.
